What Is Prosperity?
Prosperity is among the signs and evidence of God’s blessings. God commanded man to be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it (Genesis 1:28). In simple terms, prosperity is having more than enough, living in abundance — an abundance of money, houses, wisdom, understanding, good health, food, clothing, achieving your life purpose and goals, having all that is desired, and most of all, having a personal relationship with God through Jesus. Living after the spirit rather than living after the flesh. Being in obedience to the word of God and doing the will of God. A complete prosperity is a totality of both physical/material and spiritual wholeness. “But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and every other thing will be added unto you“ (Matthew 6:33 KJV).
According to the Bible, the silver and gold of this earth belong to the Lord (Haggai 2:8), not to the devil. And the Lord wants it in the hands of his children, that He may establish His covenant with His people.
Prosperity Is The Plan Of God For His Children
Prosperity for the children of God is the will of God. We can see that all through the Bible and through all ages. Over and over throughout the Scriptures, God has shown us that it is His will to prosper His people. He demonstrated that in the Garden of Eden when He placed Adam there and surrounded him with every material blessing he could possibly need, including a beautiful wife. He proved it again when He prospered His friend Abraham almost beyond belief. Noah, the friend of God, was a prosperous and wealthy man, as were Job, David, Solomon, and a host of others. Even in the New Testament, the Bible recorded that the apostles lacked nothing.
“Neither was there any among them that lacked” (Acts 4:34).
Furthermore, God’s desire to prosper His people is repeatedly evident in His dealings with the nation of Israel. We can see what God told them in the book of Deuteronomy 8:6-18 as they entered the Promised Land.
“So you shall keep the commandments of the Lord your God by walking in His ways and by fearing Him. For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing out in the valleys and hills, a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive tree and honey, a land in which you will eat bread without scarcity, in which you will lack nothing, a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you can dig copper. And you shall eat and be full, and you shall bless the Lord your God for the land he has given you. Take care lest you forget the Lord your God by not keeping his commandments and his rules and his status, which I command you today, lest when you have eaten and are full and have built good houses and live in them, and when your herds and flocks multiply and your silver and gold is multiply and all that you have is multiple, then your heart be lifted up, and you forget the Lord your God… You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he, swore to your fathers as it is this day.”
Wealth And Riches Shall Be In His House
Obviously, it is the will of God for his people to live in prosperity because the “Lord hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant” (Psalm 35:27). Psalm 112:3 goes on to say, “Praise ye the Lord. Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, that delight greatly in his commandments… Wealth and Riches shall be in his house and his righteousness endures forever.”
