Learning How to Deal With Anxiety

May 20th, 2020

In these days in which we currently live, both worry and anxiety are not only present but seem to be on the rise as well. There are times when it seems we are barely over one hurdle before the next one shows up and takes the wind from our sails again. In many situations, our very worldview is skewed. Whether it is from the parents who taught us to be that way or modeled the behavior or from situations that have occurred over our lives, we can often see the whole world as being against us.

It’s true that the world can be a rough and dark place, and there’s no way to be in control of everything that happens over time. Jesus even gave us fair warning of this when He said in John 16:33 that we would have trouble in this world.

However, we must understand that God is completely in control of anything and everything that goes on in our lives. And He isn’t just in control. He loves us! Because of that, we can trust Him to keep our best interests in mind and know that since our future is in His capable hands, we really don’t have to worry no matter what transpires in our lives. If He didn’t care about us, then we would surely have a reason to worry. Jesus went on to say in John 16:33 that we should take heart because He has overcome the world.

If you have received Jesus as your Savior, when those troubles, anxieties, and fears show up, simply give them to God through prayer. Once you’ve done that, then you can have the assurance that He can handle it in a way that will ultimately turn out for your good.

When you love someone and you know that they love you back as much or more, then trusting is something that comes much easier. No matter what the trial, tribulation, or circumstance, the Bible reminds us in 1 Peter 5:7, “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”

Here are some things to do when worries and anxieties seem to be too much.

  • Turn everything over to God in prayer. “And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.” Matthew 21:22
  • Don’t allow your worry and anxiety to grip you. Think instead on the fact that God is our help in times of trouble. “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1
  • Remember that God loves you and He is always ready to help, starting fresh every single day. “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22–23
  • Remember that you are more than a conqueror through His love for us. “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:37–39.
